Backend Engineer (Python)

Core Duties & Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services using Python with FastAPI or Django.
• Design data pipelines and ETL processes for analytics and reporting.
• Integrate with cloud services (AWS Lambda, SQS, S3) for serverless architectures.
• Write tests and documentation for all services.
• Automate infrastructure tasks and monitoring tooling.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 3+ years of Python development experience.
• Strong knowledge of FastAPI, Django REST Framework, or Flask.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and message queues.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Good understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Senior Backend Engineer and works with the Data and Infrastructure teams.

Working Conditions

Remote-friendly hybrid role. Core hours overlap with the Nairobi team with flexibility for deep work.
